The Witcher: The Old World is an adventure board game that takes players on a journey through a fantastic world full of dangers, arcane magic, dark secrets and amazing places that are just waiting to be discovered. The action of the game takes place in the fan-favorite universe of The Witcher, many years before the events of the Geralt of Rivia saga, at a time when a plague of monsters was consuming the Continent. Only witchers, professional assassins trained to fight creatures hostile to humans, were able to counteract it.
What is it all about?
In The Witcher: Old World, each player chooses one of five witcher schools and takes on the role of a professional monster slayer. During his journey through the vast lands of the Continent, he will discover their secrets, train himself in combat and gain experience. Depending on the length of the game, determined at the beginning of the game, players compete to collect 4 to 6 Trophies. The first person to collect the required number of them wins, thus bringing the highest honor and fame to their school.
There are many ways to earn trophies. The basic method is, as befits witchers, killing monsters. Players can also earn them by fighting for the honor of their school with other witchers in taverns, increasing their Attributes to the maximum level, as well as by completing specific Quests while traveling on the Continent.
During the game, players create a unique deck of cards, choosing from the pool of available skills: attacks, dodges and witcher signs. Players use the deck in combat, where they combine cards into powerful attack combinations and use the special abilities of the witcher school to which they belong. Quests, skirmishes, and even dice poker will allow them to gain new items and money and develop their skills.
